Lending Family Money

I heard an old man
say, “You can borrow
my dog,
but not my tools,”
then I knew
he was right
family doesn’t pay
family back –
a debt will remain,
some people
cannot change, though,
in choosing to give
I must accept
the possibility
of the “tools” I lend
to never return, because
my “dog”
knows her way home.
