Home Was

Strangely weightless golden doorknobs on
strangely weightless wooden doors, latchable only
by those with special training.
The eye contact
of ancestors, larger than life and
completely unknown,
in gilded frames above the stairs.
The constant lullaby of cars on the highway.
The hideous red paisley wallpaper,
replaced without my permission.
